Wedding
Cakes

Weddings are a beautiful and joyous celebration of love. However, the process of planning a wedding can be overwhelming. Confections by Crystal is here to help you design a cake in a fun and relaxing atmosphere. Whether you know exactly what you want or you have no idea where to begin, Crystal will help every step of the way to design the perfect cake for your day.

You Dream It. Crystal Makes It.

A bit about the process – we usually begin with a phone consultation to discuss your wedding plans as well as any initial concepts for a cake. Once we have an idea of the cake design and size, Crystal will be able to provide an initial quote. If you are ready to move forward, we then meet for a tasting here in Southport, CT where you sample 8-10 cake flavors and 10-12 frosting flavors. At the meeting we also finalize the cake design, discuss other details and take an initial deposit. Should any details (such as guest count) change as we move closer to the wedding day, we will adjust the cake design as needed. Simple, fun and stress-free – it’s really all just a piece of cake!

A Personal Touch

Taylor and Evan knew that they wanted a simple and elegant cake, but with one fun detail – since their pup, Weston, wasn’t allowed to be in the actual wedding, they wanted to include him on the cake! How fun is that?! After discussing the cake design, we met in early May for a cake tasting, during which the couple selected two flavor options for their guests: Vanilla Cake with Maple Buttercream and Chocolate Cake with layers of Salted Caramel, Chocolate and Vanilla Buttercream.

The wedding venue, New Haven Lawn Club, is absolutely stunning with an Art Deco-inspired interior that is perfect for an upscale celebration. I delivered the cake on a beautiful sunny afternoon and adorned it with a combination of fresh and dried flowers in tones of cream and burnt sienna with greenery. It was truly elegant and seasonal, but with the personal touch of their sweet pup peeking out to add a touch of whimsy. And judging by the photos, this was one joyous and fun wedding that I’m sure their guests will be talking about for years to come!

“All of our guests absolutely LOVED our cake. Not only was it all delicious, but everyone (including Evan and I) was obsessed with our pup being included! We picked ‘Simply the Best’ by Tina Turner as our cake cutting song (which is one of our favorite songs), so we did an impromptu concert for our guests. It was too fun!! Thank you again!!”

Bold and Dramatic

wedding-black-marble.jpg

"Hi Crystal,

Just wanted to thank you again for the gorgeous, stunning and delicious wedding cake.

It was BEYOND our wildest dreams. The marble, the gold, the orchids, the logo. Even the stand.

Everything worked so perfectly in the space. Some guests ate multiple slices. Haha.

"

Thanks!
John and Joe

Joe and John had a bold and dramatic vision for their wedding and wanted a cake that would represent their theme of Phantom of The Opera meets Cirque du Soleil.  The wedding was set to feature an aerial electric violinist, fog and stage lighting, and a secret venue to be revealed to guests at the last minute. When we met for the cake tasting, Joe and John did not have an exact design in mind yet so we discussed key visuals like glamour, decadence, black feathers, white pearls, orchids and gold branches.

The original design we landed on was a three tier black cake with antique gold highlighting around each tier and white orchids.  As the wedding drew closer and the guest count increased, we added a fourth and then fifth tier and changed the design to black and gold marble for three of the tiers, broken up by a tier of smooth gold and another tier of the original black with antique gold.  The JJ custom metal topper and white cascading orchids completed the design and made for a dramatic and bold cake that fit perfectly within the grand scale of this unforgettable wedding.

Beach Vibes

Callen and Richard planned to wed overlooking the ocean and wanted a cake that was simple, rustic and beachy. We looked at some textured styles, and settled on the semi-naked cake to represent the rustic feel of a beach wedding, with real seashells to elevate the decoration. Originally we planned to have white drips on each tier, but ultimately decided on a more simple and straightforward look. Crystal sourced a rustic white wooden crate to display the cake and complete the beachy feel. The couple decided to offer guests two different flavor profiles with half the cake featuring vanilla cake with layers of pineapple buttercream and vanilla buttercream and half featuring chocolate cake with layers of lavender and vanilla buttercream.

Simple Elegance

“Crystal-

I just wanted to send you a note and say thank you for everything you did to make our cake look amazing for our wedding! It looked absolutely perfect and tasted even better! People were raving about the cake too! You made everything so simple and that made my life so much easier! Thank you again!”

— Tara

Tara and Brendan celebrated their wedding at the Inn at Longshore, an absolutely beautiful local venue overlooking the Long Island Sound.  When they arrived for their tasting and design meeting, they were laid back about the cake style and open to suggestion.  At first they settled on a horizontal textured buttercream, but when Crystal suggested a more unique diagonal textured buttercream they switched to that as the final design.  Some fresh flowers provided by the event florist and styled by Crystal completed the simple yet elegant look of the cake. The bride and groom both had adventurous palates, choosing two very different flavor profiles for their guests to enjoy: rosé champagne cake with layers of vanilla buttercream and matcha green tea buttercream, and chocolate cake with layers of chocolate buttercream, espresso buttercream and cookies & cream buttercream.

Rustic Romance

Dana and Anthony planned a rustic backyard wedding under a white tent with light pink and rose gold accents.  They had their heart set on a birch tree cake and loved the idea of having their initials etched into the cake for a sweet and romantic feel.  Fresh flowers and a loose wreath around the base of the cake completed the rustic and romantic design, which was displayed on a natural wood pedestal.  During the design meeting, Dana and Anthony enjoyed mixing and matching the flavor samples and ultimately chose three flavor profiles for their guests to enjoy.  They also added cake pops to hold the escort cards and treat guests with a sweet bite on their way to their tables.  Because who doesn’t want dessert before AND after dinner?!

"Crystal,
The cake and cake pops were absolutely delicious and beautiful. Everyone loved them. So much in fact, most of them were eaten before we even had dinner! I could not believe how gorgeous the cake was. Very well done! We couldn't be happier!”
